The summer travel season is officially here and I know many of you (myself included) are looking forward to a fun and relaxing vacation this summer! I also know that vacations can often involve a certain degree of stress (have you been to the airport lately or driven in a car with 3 kids under the age of 10!) and wellness challenges. The good news is there are safe and natural ways to reduce the stress and stay healthy while you enjoy your much needed vacation.
As a mom of 3 (ages 7, 4, and 2 months) with a family that loves to camp and go to the beach I have definitely learned a few tips and tricks for creating a more enjoyable experience for my family and I love sharing these tips with other families! My family often turns to natural solutions such as herbs and essential oils to manage our day to day needs and lucky for us these solutions are easy to take with us when we travel.
A great way to reduce stress and stay healthy when traveling is to stay hydrated and make sure you get adequate rest. I know for me personally sleeping in a new place can be a challenge and that is where my herbs and essential oils come into play. I like to bring Chamomile tea with us wherever we go to help calm and soothe nerves. We also have a portable travel diffuser that we can use in the car, camper, or hotel room and diffusing oils such as Lavender and Frankincense helps to promote relaxation and a restful night’s sleep for my whole family.
Travel can also take a toll on your immune system. While hydration, good nutrition, and rest are key factors for keeping your immune system healthy, I also like having an all natural hand cleanser available to help protect against the extra germs we encounter. I love using doTERRA’s OnGuard blend (a combination of Wild Orange, Cinnamon, Clove, Rosemary and Eucalyptus oils) along with natural aloe and water to keep our hands clean and our immune systems healthy.
Other travel favorites include oils such as Peppermint which does wonders for easing an unhappy stomach, opening up airways and giving relief for head and neck tension. If you get too much sun combining Peppermint and Lavender with aloe is a fantastic way to cool and soothe the skin! If your family is active blends like doTERRA’s Deep Blue will help soothe sore muscles and joints. There are so many ways to stay healthy in a safe and natural way that the possibilities are endless!
